Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Ruth was a small child when her father, who was employed as an carnival barker, died. The mother of the family had to work in jobs including waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was a student and grew up in poverty within Boston Massachusetts in the tenement district. Her school was closed in two years, to go into acting. Her chosen path proved to be filled with challenges such as In New York, she obtained the opportunity to pose as stills for a crime magazine, but theatrical work eluded her.
